Four Delaware North units in New York State lauded for environmental efforts

As far as recognition for running a green-minded business goes, April was a big month for several Delaware North-operated locations in New York State.

Delaware North received acceptance into the leadership tier of the New York Environmental Leaders (NYEL) program for its operations at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (near Rochester, N.Y.), Hamburgannemariewaward360-5083954 Gaming (near Buffalo, N.Y.), Gideon Putnam Resort (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Niagara Falls State Park (Niagara Falls, N.Y.).

This statewide recognition program, led by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, was earned through an intensive application and review process that focused on the Delaware North locations’ environmental practices and accomplishments.

“We are extremely proud of this accomplishment and believe it speaks to our environmental commitment to our guests and our community,” said Tony DeFranco, Delaware North’s environmental manager at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack.

Only nine organizations in New York State were accepted into the New York Environmental Leaders program this year, including the aforementioned four sites at which Delaware North has operations.

NYEL is a program that aims to provide recognition and incentives for those organizations in the state that can demonstrate the use of pollution-prevention practices, beyond compliance performance or sustainable business practices, as a result of their participation in NYEL. Further, NYEL focuses on enabling those organizations that are committed to making improvements in their environmental performance. NYEL provides organizations with incentives to sustain their existing high levels of performance and to motivate and enable organizations that are committed to reaching higher levels of performance.
