Patina Restaurant Group’s founder and chef recalls trip to Yosemite National Park

The March edition of Los Angeles magazine features “50 Great Escapes” and among those listed is Yosemite National Park, where Delaware North operates lodging, food and beverage, retail and recreational joachimslichal360-9191339services.

Adding another Delaware North element to the story, a review by Patina Restaurant Group Founder and Chef Joachim Splichal was used for the piece. Patina Restaurant Group, of course, became part of Delaware North in May 2014.

“Years ago, I cooked two meals at The Ahwahnee hotel, and I brought my kids, who were maybe 6 years old,” Splichal recalled in the piece. “I had to work a lot, but we had an amazing time as a family. We did a couple hikes, went skiing at Badger Pass, built snowmen and had a snowball fight. It was very special.”

Experiencing The Ahwahnee – a National Historic Landmark – certainly resonated with Splichal.

“Just sitting in the hotel’s outside dining room is a tremendous experience,” he said in the story. “The big trees, the snow, the architecture – all that beauty – reminds me of the Black Forest, where I come from. It feels like home away from home.”
