Bruins host Winter Classic for the second time in its eight-year history

For the second time in its eight-year history, the NHL’s Winter Classic – a now-annual outdoor game – was hosted by the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins, owned by Delaware North Chairman Jeremy Jacobs, faced the Montreal Canadiens – a fellow winterclassic2016-1556507member of the league’s fabled Original Six – on New Year’s Day before 67,246 fans at the New England Patriots’ Gillette Stadium and a national television audience.

“It’s a very special day in hockey,” Mr. Jacobs said in a video interview with Comcast SportsNet New England. “It’s a day that we really celebrate the game.”

The Bruins also hosted the game in 2010 at Fenway Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox. Delaware North Sportservice, meanwhile, has been involved in the contest through the years as well, including in its inaugural year (2008) at Ralph Wilson Stadium – where the company operates food, beverage and retail services for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills – and as a retail provider in 2014 at Michigan Stadium.
