Asilomar Debuts Family-Friendly Evening Of Live Theatre, Dinner and Holiday Cheer December 21 – 22

Live theatrical presentation of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” by local actors,
plus holiday dinner buffet offers affordable seasonal fun for the entire family!

PACIFIC GROVE, CA, (December 10, 2007) – Asilomar Conference Grounds invites all to take a well deserved break from the holiday rush and enjoy an evening of socializing, traditional holiday dinner buffet and live production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” on December 21 & 22. The evening promises fun for all ages, and is the perfect activity to celebrate the “true meaning of Christmas,” which as Dickens’ reminds us through his play’s narrative, is charity and kindness.

Eight local actors, with extensive experience at the Pacific Repertory Theater, Western Stage and Monterey Peninsula College, will comprise the production cast, and will perform in classic “Reader’s Theater” style – with no sets, lighting or costuming. Together, through reading an abridged version of Dickens’ actual novel, they will create 35 different characters as they bring to life the classic holiday tale. The play will be performed in Asilomar’s historic Grace Dodge Chapel, which was designed by Julia Morgan in 1915 and offers theatre seating for nearly 200 guests in a newly restored and enchanting Craftsman-style ambiance.

As an added treat, guests can begin the evening by enjoying a delicious buffet dinner, featuring a selection of holiday favorites including Roasted Turkey and Maple Glazed Ham, buttermilk mashed potatoes, sage stuffing, a selection of salads and homemade pumpkin cheesecake. A selection of domestic beer and wines will also be available for purchase.

The evening festivities will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. in the Phoebe A. Hearst Social Hall, followed by the dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the theatrical performance at 7:30 p.m. “This will be a terrific evening of holiday cheer and merriment for the entire family to enjoy,” said Scott McQuiston, Asilomar Front Office Supervisor and cast member of the play. “We anticipate that this debut event will become one of Asilomar’s most popular holiday traditions.”

Tickets for this fun filled evening, including buffet dinner and the holiday show, are just $30 for adults and $20 for children. Theatre show-only tickets (with no pre-show dinner) are available at $15 for adults and $10 for children. Parking is free. Guests may also take advantage of Asilomar’s special overnight room rates, beginning at just $99 per night (for two people, including full breakfast).
