Position: Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer

Maureen Sweeny serves as an executive vice president and chief development officer for Delaware North, a global leader in hospitality and food service. In this role, Sweeny is based at Delaware North’s global headquarters in Buffalo, N.Y., within the Office of the Chief Executive.

Sweeny works closely with senior leadership and subsidiary presidents in leading the strategic and tactical direction of the Corporate Development (mergers and acquisitions), Business Development (subsidiaries), and Marketing and Communications functions at Delaware North.

Sweeny provides leadership at an enterprise level to enable Delaware North to grow both inorganically via corporate mergers and acquisitions and organically through new business for the company’s operating subsidiaries.  To that end, business development leaders in the subsidiaries are organized under Sweeny so she can leverage their expertise for the development and execution of Delaware North’s growth strategy. Additionally, Sweeny ensures the company’s marketing and public relations initiatives are aligned with the business development strategy.

She joined Delaware North in May 2017 after serving as chief commercial officer for gaming solutions organization Aristocrat Technologies from 2014-2017 in Las Vegas. While in that role, she led a team of more than 700 people and built a scalable sales, marketing and business development infrastructure. Among many accomplishments, she was named North American Executive of the Year at the 2016 Global Gaming Awards.

Prior to joining Aristocrat, Sweeny spent 30 years with IBM Corp., delivering year-on-year growth in a variety of senior executive roles. After getting her start as a systems engineer in 1984, she moved into the services business in 1993 and went on to touch nearly every corner of the services business, including the financial services sector, European global technology services and business transformation outsourcing.

As general manager for business transformation outsourcing from 2003 to 2008, Sweeny was one of the  founding executives in the establishment of a new outsourcing business providing business process outsourcing to clients globally. She oversaw a team to define the offerings, identify target clients, establish a global management system, design an effective incentive plan and build a highly matrixed delivery team across India, the Philippines, Eastern Europe and the United States.

From 2008 to 2010, Sweeny served as general manager of IBM’s global technology services in Europe, leading a team of 10,000 people across Europe and India to deliver growth in a $3 billion European outsourcing services business. The complex portfolio of clients included companies in financial services, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, distribution and manufacturing. She delivered similar impressive results as IBM’s general manager for the financial service sector from 2011 to 2014, leading a 7,000-member team to deliver growth in a $2 billion outsourcing business that included North American clients in investment banking, retail banking and insurance.

Sweeny graduated summa cum laude from Manhattan College in New York City, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
