Rick Dempsey, the Baltimore Orioles and Delaware North Sportservice Celebrate ‘Bacon on a Stick’ at Oriole Park at Camden Yards with the Destination America channel

BALTIMORE (Feb. 19, 2013) - Dempsey’s Brew Pub and Restaurant’s signature item, “Bacon on a Stick,” has garnered national attention. The Baltimore fan favorite is featured in “The United States of Bacon,” a hit show on Discovery’s Destination America channel.

Former Baltimore Orioles catcher and 1983 World Series MVP Rick Dempsey, Vice President of Ticketing and Fan Services for the Baltimore Orioles Neil Aloise and Delaware North Companies Sportservice will celebrate this national notoriety with a viewing party. Media and customers can watch the episode’s premiere at 9 p.m. at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards eatery.

Dempsey’s Brew Pub & Restaurantis a year-round, sports-themed destination for upscale American fare, bottled beer and in-house-brewed draft beers, and is managed by Sportservice.

“We are proud to be recognized by Discovery’s Destination America channel,” said Sportservice Executive Chef at Oriole Park Josh Distenfeld. “Bacon on a Stick is a unique and popular item that has proven to be a hit for Baltimore sports fans year-round. We are also excited to continue our relationship with the Baltimore Orioles and Rick Dempsey after a successful first year of operations.”

Distenfeld created Bacon on a Stick to be served at both Dempsey’s and in the concessions and suites for games at Oriole Park. It is prepared by taking a five-ounce strip of Hungarian slab bacon and searing and smoking it, then dipping it into maple syrup spiked with Old Bay. It is finished on the grill.

The restaurant – a partnership between Delaware North Companies Sportservice and Rick Dempsey, who is also a member of the Orioles broadcast team – was created to help make the downtown area near Oriole Park at Camden Yards a year-round destination for local residents and visitors to the city. Sportservice became the Orioles’ food, beverage and retail partner prior to the 2011 season, bringing its creativity and locally centric menu to the ballpark, many elements of which can be seen in Dempsey’s dynamic offerings.

Dempsey’s Brew Pub and Restaurant officially opened during the 2012 season. It is a year-round operation – open for lunch and dinner during both game days and non-game days.
