Delaware North honored for public-relations excellence at 20th annual Excalibur Awards
Kristin Van Dewater, Delaware North Companies Marketing SpecialistBUFFALO, N.Y., (June 19, 2009) – Delaware North Companies Marketing Specialist Kristin Van Dewater and the company’s Corporate Communications Department received awards at the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Buffalo Niagara’s 20th annual Excalibur Awards at Salvatore’s Italian Garden in Depew last night.
Van Dewater received the chapter’s Rising Star Award for demonstrating public relations excellence and leadership potential in her first five years in the profession. The Corporate Communications Department received a Silver Excalibur Award for its efforts surrounding Earth Day 2008.
Van Dewater joined Delaware North in 2004 and currently serves as a marketing specialist. In that role, Van Dewater has overseen marketing and public relations for such high-level events as the 2005 Major League Baseball (MLB) All Star Game, the opening of Shuttle Launch Experience at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center and managed communications for the fabled Plaza Hotel. Van Dewater is a graduate of Canisius College and a lifetime Western New York resident.
“Kristin has been invaluable to Delaware North and our communication efforts over the past five years,” said Wendy Watkins, vice president of corporate communications and marketing for Delaware North Companies. “It’s been a pleasure watching her grow as a professional in our department. We’re all very proud of what she’s accomplished.”
Delaware North’s Corporate Communication Department also earned a silver Excalibur award for its communications work surrounding Earth Day 2008. Delaware North hosted Capt. Gene Cernan, the last astronaut ever to step foot on the moon, at its corporate office in celebration of the environmental holiday. Cernan visited area schools and also helped Delaware North Companies Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Jacobs and the Jacobs family celebrate its $1 million donation to fund Nichols School’s new science building during his visit.
The Excalibur Awards is PRSA Buffalo Niagara’s annual celebration of outstanding public relations programs, projects and professionals in the region. In total, 63 gold, silver and bronze Excalibur awards were handed out last evening. Judging was performed by public relations professionals from PRSA Capital Region Chapter (Albany), who considered entries from 22 different organizations.
