Delaware North Companies and the Buffalo Airport transform construction wall into art gallery by students from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts

BUFFALO, N.Y. (December 18, 2013) – Travelers flying into or out of Buffalo Niagara International Airport will now be greeted by 10 original pieces of art, created by local Buffalo high school students from PS 192- The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.

The new art installation is part of a fundraising effort by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority and Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services.  Delaware North supplied The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts with canvases, paints and brushes, instructing the young artists to paint the Queen City - through their eyes.

Delaware North is challenging local companies to donate a minimum $200 to the art department at The Buffalo Academy of Visual and Performing Arts.  In return, they will be gifted with a painting of the company’s choice.

“Our goals with this project are to encourage the talent of these young artists and to help provide much-needed funds for a school art adventure for these students to New York City,” said Matt King, president of Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services. “It’s all part of Delaware North’s commitment to serve the communities in which we do business.”

“We are delighted to display these uniquely creative paintings in our airport that illustrate the essence of our community, as seen through the young eyes of such talented artists,” said NFTA Executive Director Kimberley A. Minkel.

Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services – a division of Delaware North Companies, one of the largest and most admired privately held hospitality companies in the world – operates in more than 25 airports across the globe.

Delaware North is currently in the process of bringing two new restaurant and retail concepts to the Buffalo Airport -- Queen City Kitchen and JetSet Market-- opening in early 2014.

With construction of the new restaurant in the terminal currently going on, temporary walls were erected. The local Buffalo students’ paintings were recently put on display on the walls. All of the art supplies were purchased locally in Buffalo at Hyatt’s, and local delivery service Foxy Delivery was used for transportation.
